Melissa Embry is a former journalist living in Dallas, Texas. When not writing, she works as a volunteer at a stable that provides therapy through horsemanship to disabled children and adults.

Melissa Embry is a former journalist who grew up on military posts across the United States and Europe and now lives in Dallas, Texas.   In addition to “The Gates of Shaizar,” first published in Pulp Empire, her short fiction has appeared in Mystic Signals, Short-Story.me, Pulp Modern, The Western Online, and Western publisher Moonlight Mesa’s  anthology of cowboy stories.  She is currently writing a contemporary novel entitled Wild Horses, and includes horses or other equines in the casts of her stories whenever possible.  When not writing, she volunteers at a nonprofit stable that provides therapy through horsemanship to disabled children and adults.
