Abandoned Towers Art Guidelines

Please read the guidelines in their entirety before contacting us.

Abandoned Towers is always interested in hearing from artists who are interested in being considered for commissions. While we do not accept unsolicited art, we do accept artist portfolios. We’re happy to provide a venue for artists and illustrators to display their work. If you feel that your work or skills are a good fit for Abandoned Towers, we’d love to hear from you.

Non-Commissioned Art

If you’re an artist who is interested in having your work being seen, we would encourage you to do the following:

If we like the idea or the supplied image, we’ll include it in the content and credit you with the creation of the image. Ensure that you have all of the appropriate rights to the image before submitting. In addition to in-line credit of the image, we’ll also allow you to have a Bio page on Abandoned Towers under the Artists section where you can talk about yourself, and link to your various portfolios, stores and completed works.

Commissioned Art

Covers

For the print editions (and ePub editions) of Abandoned Towers, we commission full color covers. These covers must allow for the inclusion of an Abandoned Towers masthead, as well as space to highlight the contents of the issue. For the print editions the artwork must be able to be supplied at a resolution of at least 300dpi. Given that covers are also used in promotion on the web, and as thumbnails, it is important that the subject of the cover not become totally incomprehensible when it is reduced to an appropriate cover thumbnail.

Covers are also displayed on the site in our Cover Gallery, where you will receive credit for the cover, and optionally a link to a Bio page on Abandoned Towers where you can talk about yourself and link to your various portfolios, stores and completed works.

Payment: is negotiated with the individual artist, but is not lucrative (keep in mind that we only pay $10.00 for accepted stories, so manage your expectations). You will also receive a complimentary electronic copy of the edition in which your work appears.

Rights: We buy perpetual, non-exclusive rights to publish the image on our website, on products in our online stores and on any printed material which might be produced for the magazine. What this means is that if we accept a piece of art, we own the right to use it forever as long as that use is related to Abandoned Towers Magazine in some way. The artist retains the right to sell it to others or use it for other purposes, but understands that we will not remove it from our website or online stores or change any printed material it may appear on.

Interior Illustrations

In addition to the covers, our issues feature interior black and white illustration. These illustrations should fit the stories with which they are included, so we’ll typically make a call for artists for upcoming issues and assign stories for illustrations.

What We Are Looking For:

Although what we’re looking for changes based on the content which is coming in, there are some things which you can assume will be of interest:

Formats We Accept

We are able to accept any format readable by Adobe CS5.5, although when considering pieces not yet accepted we prefer .jpg or .png.
